What's New?

Le Mans 2010

Regular visitors to the site will know that Porscheshire is not making the annual trip to Le Mans this year.  Instead, a cunning plan has been devised to celebrate the event in Cheshire.  The team plan to recreate the track-side experience (including grumpy, expensive catering, cramped campsite, warm beer, french wine) but with the added bonus of being able to watch the whole race (on TV).  With 3 days to go, 2 members have already signed-up to the exciting experience.  So there are still spaces for any club members who are still interested!  More details to follow.

Get Well Soon #17

We are sad to report that daredevil member #17 has fractured his right femur in 3 places.  Some say he was in a TVR, others say it was a Boxster.  Actually he fell over a football.  He is going to miss Le Mans (will still be in a hospital bed) and may miss the start of the world cup, but a big party is planned when he is fit and well again.  Picture below.  If you are squeamish, you should not scroll any further.  You have been warned. . . .

What's not new but is here in case you've not visited the site for some time?

After much thought, #4 has decided that he can not face parting with his beloved Boxster S and so has decided not to sell.  Apologies to those who expressed an interest, but it seems that when it came to it, the thought of not seeing that lovely shiny black 987 in the mornings was too much to contemplate.

The events committee are believed to be about to unveil a surprise package of trips for 2010.  It is thought that the team will be planning trips to the Isle of Man (something to do with no speed limits?), The Ring (something to do with going fast around a circuit longer that some small European countries) and The Festival of Speed along with the usual local events such as Easter at Oulton Park and Chumley.  Watch this space.  Although at this pace it will be November before they do anything . . . .

Meanwhile, some of the club managed to meet-up at Oulton Park for the F3/GTs over Easter.

Although Porshceshire won't be sending an official contingent to Le Mans in 2010, we have been in discussion with Porsche Club GB about their new arrangements for 2010.  The trip has always been the highlight of our year and the PCGB campsite has been a great place from which to see the event and meet up with old friends.  This year PCGB are changing the format of the campsite package and it looks like there are some great improvements.  More details here.
We've just heard that #10 has sustained a double fracture on a ski-ing trip.  Sounded like a real drama.  Awaiting pictures of the gorry details.  Porscheshire wishes him well and suggests that in future he sticks to safe sports like motorcycle racing.  Perhaps his dad will buy him one of the new GT3-Hybrids to make him feel better??
The young guns section is under final review, but we can announce another new member to the young section - see here for more details.

And, after much research we can announce that it IS possible to get a child seat in the back of a 996.  The maxi-cosi rodi SPS to be precise.  It does require the removal of the backrest of the rear seat, but this is a 5 minute job with a screwdriver and allen key.  It's a bit of a tight squeeze, but it does fit.

Even more surprising news is that Porsche have at last remembered that their success is largely due to winning Le Mans more times than any other car manufacturer, and are likely to have a go at another win.  The new boss of Porsche seems to like to go racing.  And to prove that they can also build ecologically sound supercars, they have just shown-off the 918.  Quicker round the Ring than a Carrera GT, aparently, but has duracells under the seats (or some other clever trickery).  And it looks like a hot-wheels car!  More details here

Finally, check-out the excellent video footage now available via the official Porsche website.  See here for more details.
